Surgical Mesh Attorney
Even though the FDA approved the use of surgical mesh for the correction of POP (pelvic organ prolapse) and SUI (stress urinary incontinence) by 2008 they had received over 1000 reports of complications stemming from the use of the newly modified and approved devices. By 2010, this number had grown immensely and the FDA then reviewed and updated their warning to physicians, surgeons, and patients.
In their warning, they outlined the potential complications that could arise as pain during intercourse, perforation of the bladder or other nearby organs, bleeding, sepsis, and tissue damage of the areas around the implants. These potential symptoms reduce the quality of life, restrict the activities that can be enjoyed by women, and, in some cases, could lead to lengthy hospital stays to correct the issue, or even death. Surgical mesh attorneys have already filed lawsuits against manufacturers like Bard Avaulta in over 500 cases around the U.S.
Surgical Mesh Attorney Overview
Surgical mesh has been used for years to help strengthen weak muscle tissue in herniated areas of the abdomen. The mesh is soft and pliable, much like gauze only having a larger weave to the material. It is made from a polymer plastic and the weave allows the tissue surrounding it to grow into it. Until recently the mesh has been used safely, complications only coming up when the use of the mesh was introduced to correct POP and SUI.
Those that have received these implants should educate themselves as to the potential risks associated with these devices. Many of the symptoms have been listed here, but not all can be. Go and see your doctor. Talk to him (or her) about your implant to determine if you are at risk, or possibly already having issues you may not have realized are stemming from the device. If you are at risk or experiencing any issues listed here, seek the advice of an experienced surgical mesh attorney.
